I like farmers markets very much. I think they are nice places. In this story, I want to talk about some farmers markets I read about. The markets are in Middletown, Delaware, Maryland, Marietta, and Monterey. These are all different towns. But they all have good farmers markets.

When I first hear about farmers market, I don’t know much. But later I go to one and see many good things. People sell fruits, vegetables, bread, eggs, and flowers. Sometimes they also have meat, cheese, and even crafts. So now I think farmers markets are very special.

Middletown, Delaware Farmers Market

Middletown is a small town in Delaware. But it has a big farmers market. I read that many people come here every week. The farmers sell many vegetables like tomatoes, lettuce, cucumbers, and carrots. They also sell apples, peaches, and berries when it is summer.

One lady there sells honey. She said the honey comes from her own bees. That is very cool to me. Another man sells bread that he makes himself. It smells very good. People come here to buy fresh food. It is better than food from store because it is very fresh.

Many families come to Middletown farmers market. They bring their kids. Some kids help carry the bags. People smile and talk to each other. I think it feels like a happy place.

Farmers Markets in Maryland

Maryland is bigger than Delaware. It has many farmers markets. In the city and in the countryside too. I read about one in Baltimore. This one is very big. Many stands sell fruits and vegetables. There is also fish and crab because Maryland is close to water.

Some farmers markets in Maryland also have music. One Saturday I go and hear a man playing guitar. Some kids are dancing. That made me feel happy.

People in Maryland like to buy local food. They say it helps farmers. And it tastes better. I tried a tomato at a Maryland market. It was very red and sweet. Not like from the store.

Marietta Farmers Market

Marietta is another town. It has a nice farmers market too. This market is not so big. But it is cozy. I see flowers and herbs here. A lady sells small plants you can take home and grow. She teaches me how to care for a basil plant.

I also see soap and candles. One lady makes them herself. She says they are natural. They smell very good.

Many people here know each other. They talk like friends. I think this is nice. A man even gave me a free apple. I said thank you. It was a good apple.

The Marietta market is on Saturday mornings. Many people come after breakfast. The market is by the park, so after shopping, people sit and drink coffee.

Monterey Farmers Market

Monterey is far from the other towns. It is by the ocean. The farmers market here is very colorful. People sell vegetables and fruits but also seafood. There is fish, shrimp, and squid. I never see squid before so it was interesting.

One lady sells strawberries. She says they are very sweet because they grow in the sun near the sea. I try one and it was very sweet.

The Monterey market also has flowers and handmade things. I saw a man who made baskets. He showed me how he weaves them. It looks hard to do but very pretty.

People in Monterey like fresh food. Many restaurants buy food from the market too. That way the food in the restaurants is fresh.

Why Farmers Markets Are Good

I think farmers markets are good places for many reasons. First, you get fresh food. It is better than food that sits in the store for many days. Second, you help farmers. They can sell their food and make money. Third, you meet nice people. Everyone is friendly and happy.

At farmers markets, you also learn new things. Like how to plant herbs or how honey is made. You see food you never saw before. Like purple carrots or big squash.

I like that you can talk to the person who grows the food. They tell you how they grow it. That makes me feel good because I know where my food comes from.

My Favorite Thing

If I have to pick my favorite thing at farmers markets, I think it is the fresh fruit. I like strawberries, apples, and peaches. They taste very good when they are fresh. I also like the bread because it smells good and tastes good.

I also like seeing people happy. Families come and laugh. Kids run and play. People sit and talk. It feels nice.

Farmers markets in Middletown Delaware, Maryland, Marietta, and Monterey are all special. Each one has something different. But all of them have fresh food and friendly people. I think everyone should visit a farmers market.
