Investment Banking Resume Guide: How to Write a Banker-Style CV After an Investment Banking Course
Write an investment banking resume that gets interviews. Learn format rules, bullet structure and how to showcase your course and models.
Recruiters spend very little time on each resume, so yours must be clean, factual and relevant. After completing an investment banking course, you should showcase your new skills in a banker-style format.
Format rules
- One page for freshers and early-career candidates
- Clean, consistent font and spacing
- Reverse chronological order
- No photos, graphics or decorative design
- Saved as a PDF unless asked otherwise
Structure
- Header: name, phone, email, LinkedIn.
- Education: degree, institution, years and relevant grades.
- Certifications and training: list your investment banking course with the institute name and key topics covered.
- Experience and internships: most recent first.
- Projects: models and valuation work.
- Skills and interests: Excel, modelling, valuation tools, languages and genuine interests.
Writing strong bullets
Use a clear structure: action, task and measurable result. For example, "Built a three-statement model and DCF for a listed manufacturing company, valuing it with a base-case range and sensitivity analysis." Avoid vague statements like "responsible for finance work."
Showcasing your investment banking course
Do not only list the name. Add one or two lines on what you built: a DCF, a merger model or an LBO, plus a capstone project. This turns a certificate into evidence.
Include deal awareness
If you wrote a mock pitch or analysed a recent transaction, include it under projects.
Common mistakes
- Writing a long objective statement
- Listing duties instead of achievements
- Inconsistent formatting
- Typos, which are heavily penalised in banking
- Overstating skills you cannot defend in an interview
LinkedIn alignment
Keep your profile consistent with your resume, add a clear headline and highlight your modelling projects and investment banking course.
